Akron, Ohio (July 2, 2014) - With a looming threat of rain at the legendary Ohio race, Mother Nature provided the perfect weather to race under. But the day wasn’t without its struggles. The Lima, Ohio track is well known for its deep cushion and demand on the bikes and riders. Fans are never disappointed and the riders never fail to deliver a great show. This past Saturday would prove to be another success.

Our Bonneville Performance/Castrol/Triumph team was honored to have a special member on their pit crew for the day. The team partnered with VETMotorsports and embedded a wounded combat veteran into the team. An Ohio native and Naval Aviation Ordinance operator during Enduring Freedom, our new crewmember jumped right into action. “David worked his tail off today and we are honored to have him as part of our team today.” says Team owner Bill Gately. David was elbow deep in the pit action shortly after the black Bonneville Performance shirt when on. This was the first time VETMotorsports has worked within AMA Pro Flat Track racing and we hope this is the first of many more encounters. VetMotorsports is a 501c3 non Profit organization which channels the need for post 9/11 injured combat vets to harness their energy and take part in active motorsports so they may use the talents. The team looks forward to seeing the relationship with VetMotorsports continue for many races to come.

As the day’s practice sessions took to the track it didn’t take long to see this race surface would be a challenge for everyone. Lima is well known for being deep and demanding, that’s why the fans are never disappointed. The day started with 3 practice sessions. One of which resulted in a brake failure for rider Mikey Martin who laughed off the importance for brakes. As the heat races finished Mikey and the team found themselves lined up in the Semi looking for a transfer position to the main. However an electrical issue would hinder their efforts. This would be the first time this year Martin wouldn’t be lined up for the A-Main with the Expert Twin Bonneville.

“It just wasn’t our day. These days happen to everyone unfortunately this was our day. We’re excited about Hagerstown next week. Thursday we’re visiting military members at Walter-Reed Military Medical Center then Thursday night we will be at Port Royal Speedway in Pennsylvania for the first time riding a promo for the Sprint car fans there. Then we are off to a Hagerstown for the July 5th race there. I’m really looking forward to letting the bike stretch her legs on the Hagerstown 1/2 mile.”
