The twin-cylinder motorcycles contested in GNC1 are the most powerful machines in the Grand National Championship. Reaching speeds in excess of 130 mph, the large-displacement motorcycles are based on rules which allow for a variety of performance modifications.

All machines run on purpose-built Goodyear or Dunlop tires and are fueled by Sunoco Supreme 112 race fuel.

As impressive as the motorcycles are, it’s the all-star lineup of riders that truly puts on the show. Jared Mees rebounded in 2014 to recover the coveted National No. 1 plate, which he had forfeited to Brad Baker in 2013. Mees did most of his damage aboard a twin, specifically his Rogers Racing HarleyDavidson, on which he recorded eight podiums.

When competing on short tracks and TTs, the stars of AMA Pro GNC1 have to switch gears to their singlecylinder, production-based 450cc bikes. Putting the emphasis on more strategic and intricate racing methods, the shorter courses contain less lengthy straightaways and demand a high level of creativity in order to get to the front of the pack and maintain a competitive position.

In 2014, there were four GNC1 Singles races. The DAYTONA Flat Track doubleheader saw Briar Bauman and Kenny Coolbeth, Jr. earn victories aboard their Honda CRF450Rs. At the Castle Rock TT and Peoria TT, Henry Wiles took home the checkered flags with a couple of convincing wins aboard his Kawasaki KX450F.
