AMA Pro Flat Track Daytona Results March 5

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (March 5, 2009) - A near capacity crowd came out to Daytona's Municipal Stadium for round two of the AMA Pro Racing Flat Track Singles Championship. Once again they were treated to another great night of short track action.

Last night Beaverton Honda's Joe Kopp had to use a provisional to get into the National and worked his way to third. Tonight starting much closer to the front he grabbed the hole shot and led all twenty five laps to capture his first Short Track National win.

The win gives Kopp the dirt track "Grand Slam" a win on Half Mile, Miles, Short Track and TT. "It took forever to get a short track win, I thought I might have to retire without one," said Kopp. I was not all smooth sailing for the Washington based rider as Kenny Coolbeth (Bettencourt Honda) kept the pressure on, even late in the race, grabbing the lead in turn two only to give it right back in turn three.

Coolbeth had to finally hold off Last nights winner Jones Brother Racing's Henry Wiles. Wiles closed, but could not mount a solid challenge and settled for third and an early season points lead.

Memphis Shades JR Schnabel got tangled with another rider early in the race and dropped all the way to twelfth, before charging back to the front and a fourth place finish, just a little over three seconds back.

Pro Honda Oils / Rogers Lake Racing's Jared Mees slipped back from third to fifth finishing just in front of Dash winner Sammy Halbert. In the four lap Dash for a $1000, the Glassman / King Kustoms backed Halbert duplicated his brother's win from the night before.

At one point Sammy Halbert was in eighteenth position, but he also clawed his way through the field and came out on top of a battle with defending Singles National Champion Jake Johnson (Dave Burks Motorsports / Suzuki) anf his brother Zanotti Racing's Jethro.

Earlier in the night Weirbach Racing / Bromley Suzuki's James Rispoli dominated the Pro Singles Championship main in much the same way. Rispoli stood off repeated challenges from first Southland Racing's Kayl Kolkman, then Greenland & Son Masonary's Austin Greenland and finally Celorie Brothers Racing's Brad Baker.

Baker was trying for two in a row, but fell just short. Greenland and Kolkman led young road racer Red Bull / American Honda's JD Beach home.
