AMA Pro Flat Track presented by J&P Cycles Recognizes 2001 Colonial Downs Winner Jennifer Snyder

NEW KENT, Va. (August 23, 2013) – This Saturday, August 24, 2013, marks Round 9 of AMA Pro Flat Track presented by J&P Cycles’ 2013 schedule and the inaugural running of the Virginia Mega Mile at Colonial Downs in New Kent, Va. Though the AMA Pro Grand National Championship has never raced at the breath taking 1.25-mile long circuit before, there still lies some pretty impressive history here.

In 2001, female sensation Jennifer Snyder won her first professional motorcycle race at Colonial Downs in Formula USA competition and helped pave the way for all women riders alike in what has become such a male-dominated sport.

“It was a dream-come-true for me,” said Snyder. “I fell in love with dirt track racing early on in my childhood and have had a passion for the sport ever since. I would read magazines covering dirt track riders whenever I could get my hands on them, usually every week. To get my first win at Colonial Downs was just remarkable and I’m happy AMA Pro Flat Track has decided to bring their series to the racetrack.”

Snyder, mounted on a factory Harley-Davidson, edged out former dirt track stars Rich King and Will Davis to reach the stripe first in the opening round of the 2001 Formula USA season. The win would mark Snyder’s first and only win of her professional career.

Snyder would go on to graduate to the AMA Pro Grand National Championship ranks and compete alongside the world’s greatest flat trackers for the next several years. Unfortunately for Snyder though, a career ending injury that she sustained during a race would lead to her abrupt exit of the sport she’d grown to love.

After realizing she could no longer compete at the professional level, Snyder went on to finish school and with the inspiration of her own accident and long rehab process, she decided to become a Physical Therapist Assistant. Snyder is married with an eight-month-old and currently resides in Michigan.

Though Snyder hasn’t competed in AMA Pro Flat Track competition for roughly a decade now, her presence is still felt throughout the paddock and community. Current female riders Shayna Texter and Nichole Cheza are just a few lady competitors that have benefited from Snyder’s impact on the sport.

Texter is doing a phenomenal job of carrying the torch, as she already has two J&P Cycles Pro Singles wins to her credit in 2013 and looks to add a third here at Colonial Downs this weekend on her 25A Crosley Radio Honda CRF450R. It’s safe to say the future looks bright for female riders competing in AMA Pro Flat Track presented by J&P Cycles competition for many years to come.
