AMA Pro Flat Track's Kevin Clark to serve as Superprestigio flagger for second straight year

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Dec. 9, 2014) - Waving a checkered flag isn’t that difficult, but very few people have managed to turned it into the art form Kevin Clark has.

Even fewer have turned the art of waving flags into international stardom.

Case in point; when MotoGP superstar Marc Marquez served as Grand Marshal for the Indy Mile in August, he showed of a specially designed helmet with Clark pictured on the back.

When Marquez wrapped up his 10th consecutive victory days later, he personally invited Clark onto the track to wave the checkered flags in the signature style that’s made him a mainstay on the AMA Pro Flat Track circuit and a huge fan favorite.

It was then it became clear that Marquez, who has millions of fans worldwide, was a fan of Clark’s.

“When he put my likeness on his helmet, it was beyond humbling,” Clark said. “Most people gotta be big to have a sticker of them on a GP helmet.”

But now Clark is big. So big, in fact, that he’s been invited back to flag the Superprestigio in Barcelona, Spain on Saturday. Clark will represent AMA Pro Flat Track with the flags while Jared Mees, Brad Baker and Shayna Texter will represent the series on the track, racing against Marquez and a star-studded field of 40 top international riders.

Last year, Clark flagged the event, which saw Baker take the overall victory after a thrilling battle with Marquez in the final. It was all business for Clark though.

“It was a race, it really was,” said Clark. “I went, I did it. I didn’t really have any (free) time. This year, I’m planning on hanging out, experiencing it, enjoying it more. Last year, it was more like going to a race.”

But it wasn’t just any race. Motorcycle enthusiasts and racing fans from around the world were watching to see how the top riders from various disciplines would stack up in a flat track event. Flat track, used by top road racers in training, is considered by many to be the toughest test of bike control.

Then again, Clark treats every race the same. One of the biggest compliments he’s received is when someone thanked him to flagging kids racing 50cc bikes with the same gusto as he does the main event of an AMA Pro Flat Track event.

“Every race is special to me,” Clark said.

Of course, the Superprestigio is special for everyone, and the crowd at the Palau Sant Jordi arena oozes excitement. That, in turn, brings out the best in Clark.

“I have fun with it,” Clark said. “It’s an energy feed. The more energy you get, the more you feed, that’s just the way I am.”

Whatever it is that brings out the best in Clark, there’s no denying he makes the races special. And with a star-studded field and the eyes of the entire world watching, having Clark waving the flags with his signature flare is just the icing on the cake.

The Superprestigio is set to begin at 12:00 noon ET (9:00 a.m. PT) on Saturday, Dec. 13 and all of the action will be broadcast live on www.FansChoice.tv, the official home for live streaming of all AMA Pro Flat Track events. In addition to FansChoice.tv, the Superprestigio will be available for live viewing at www.cycleworld.com, www.motorcyclistonline.com, www.sportrider.com.
