AMA Pro Racing saddened by the passing of four-time Grand National Champion Carroll Resweber

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (May 9, 2015) – AMA Pro Racing is deeply saddened by the passing of Carroll Resweber, one of the original legends of motorcycle racing.

Resweber won four Grand National Championships from 1958 to 1961, all on a Harley-Davidson. In all, the Texas native won 19 nationals over six seasons. He was inducted into the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 1998.

The model of consistency and versatility, Resweber claimed victories on Road Courses, Short Tracks, Half-Miles and Miles. In 1959, he took the checkered flag at the inaugural Sacramento Mile.

Resweber’s career was cut short by injuries suffered in an accident at a race in Lincoln, Ill., in 1962.

During his short, but illustrious career, Resweber forged a rivalry with another iconic rider, Joe Leonard. Leonard was runner-up to Resweber in three of his four championship seasons. Resweber continued to work for Harley-Davidson until he retired in 1992.
