Brad Baker Debuts Lloyd Brothers Motorsports/Team Hurt By Accident Ducati at Springfield Mile

AMA Pro Racing Grand National Flat Track Series rookie, Brad Baker, made his debut ride on the Lloyd Brothers Motorsports / Team Hurt By Accident Ducati a success at the Memorial Day Springfield Mile.

Baker immediately made his presence known in the first practice session by setting fastest lap of the day at 34.932 seconds – 103.057 mile per hour average around the tacky Springfield Mile oval. Baker remained on top of the time charts throughout both qualifying sessions to claim the pole position for heat number one.

“The biggest success for the team was not how well the bike went down the straits, but how fast Brad was getting through the turns. He was able to keep par with the top four riders on established brands through the corners which gave him a big run at the straits” said team co-owner Mike Lloyd.

Twisting his Motion Pro Revolver Throttle to the locks, Baker continued to maintain his stranglehold on the competition by winning his heat race over defending Grand National Champion, Jake Johnson. The win proved to be the fastest heat race of the day and would place the rookie on pole for his first ever Mile race as an Expert ranked rider.

The main event progressed as it would be a fairytale ending to a perfect day at Springfield. Baker lead 9 laps of the 25 lap main event, trading positions several times each lap with top racers Jake Johnson and Jared Mees until the Ducati developed a front end wobble that would ultimately force Baker to drop off the pace with 5 laps to go and settle for a fifth place finish behind multi-time National Champion Kenny Coolbeth.

“Obviously, it would have been nice to win” stated Baker. “My mechanic, David Gamble, put together beautiful bikes and we were perfect up until the last few laps. I can’t think of a better way to start off my Twins Series season with the Lloyd Brothers Team. Springfield is a pretty hooked up track which makes most bikes wobble a little. The bike worked awesome through the corners, it just wore me out a little keeping her from shaking her head at the very end of the straits. I finally had to use my head and settle in so that we can come back at the next race and finish what we started.”
