Riders took to the Rufea Short Track today in Lleida, Spain for one last day of testing before everyone sets up at the Palau Sant Jordi for the fourth running of the Superprestigio. Besides testing it was also a day to see how everyone measured up, and of course, once again to see American Flat Track’s Brad Baker and MotoGP’s Marc Marquez side-by-side before they face off this Saturday, December 17.

The three-time MotoGP™ World Champion spends a fair bit of time training in Rufea for the flat track all-star event and continues to improve each year. But Baker doesn't see squaring off with Marquez at the Palau as being any tougher than their close battle last year.

“He’s Marc Marquez and he’s riding a motorcycle, so yeah, you're going to have to give a hundred percent wherever you go with him,” Baker said. “Marc is an incredible rider, anything he does whether it’s enduro, motocross, road racing, flat track… he tries to do his best and pushes hard. It’s going to be another great event and great race.”

With Jared Mees sidelined from the Superprestigio this year while he’s on the mend from a testing injury, it was asked who Brad thought would be joining Marquez and himself on the podium this year?

“It’s a shame that Jared got hurt in testing, he had a very hard crash and just wasn’t feeling quite a hundred percent to come and perform at his best,” Baker said. “Ferran Cardus is a very good rider. He has, I believe, just as much chance to win Superprestigio as myself and Marc. He’s going to be tough if he can get a good start and keep his head about him and not make mistakes, he can turn just as fast of a lap as both Marquez and I if not faster now. So Ferran is going to be very tough to beat.

“Of course we’ve got Oliver Brindley from England who is a good rider… And there are a couple of others that are decent, but really the only riders that are on the level with me is Marc Marquez and Ferran Cardus.”

Cardus showed speed and style at the pre-Superprestigio test in Rufea and the 2016 Spanish Copa de Flat Track Champion will try his best to pull off the upset over Baker and Marquez.

Even though both Baker and Marquez are known for their on-track aggression, the 2013 Grand National Champion saw the secret to success for Saturday’s race as keeping a cool head on a technical track.

“I think this race here is about the rider that gets the best start and keeps his head about him, and tries to be consistent and makes the least amount of mistakes.”

There are no guarantees in racing, but as Baker said earlier, it should be interesting.
