Briar Bauman and Memphis Shades/Babe DeMay Racing First Night Recap

Rossville, TN- In their debut race, the Babe DeMay Motorsports team had an up and down night on the unique white limestone track that is Daytona International Speedway. Qualifying 14th in one of the most stacked fields of Experts that the sport has seen in years, Briar was very confident going into his heat race. “The bike was just working awesome. I felt so comfortable.” Team mechanic Clayton Shambaugh had very few changes to make to the bike after the 3 rounds of practice that each rider took part in.
However, the heat race didn’t go as planned and Briar was shuffled to the outside of the track, relegating him to the 8th spot at the finish which sent him to the semi-final race. “I was a little frustrated with the 8th, but I got shuffled up there to the top of track and I knew better than to find myself up there. “
In the semi, it was Briar’s time to shine as he got the holeshot and led all 10 laps to take the win. In just his first race on the Babe DeMay tuned Yamaha, he was atop the podium and thanking all of our team’s sponsors. “To win a semi is great, but it is obviously not where we want to be, I want to win heat races. However, it was good to win a race for the team, I was able to properly thank all of our amazing sponsors and put a Yamaha in front of the pack.”
At this point in the night, it was main event time. There were very little changes made to the bike before the final and Briar ripped a great start all the way back on the 3rd row. While working his way through the pack, a straw bale was knocked out onto the track by another rider and Briar had no choice but to run right over it. “It was scary for sure. We were all together battling at that point and all of a sudden I had a bale in front of me!” After colliding with the bale, a mechanical issue developed and Briar was forced to pull off the track. “You know, it’s just a racing deal, this kind of thing happens. It’s rough that it had to happen with me after all of the last minute work that Babe and Clayton put in to make this race possible for me. I want to win for the team and sponsors!”
Round 2 of the AMA Pro Flat Track Series presented by J&P Cycles kicks off Friday March 15th at the same track in Daytona where Briar expects to put his Yamaha YZ450F near the front of the field.
