Davis Fisher on the verge of making history as he seeks AMA Pro Flat Track Pro Singles championship in first professional season

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Oct. 2, 2014) – Davis Fisher entered last weekend’s Calistoga Half-Mile with only an outside shot of claiming the 2014 AMA Pro Flat Track Pro Singles championship in just his first season at the professional level. But claiming his first-career victory in the hills of wine country propelled Fisher to second in the standings and he now sits just six points shy of Kyle Johnson for the lead.

“I didn’t really expect to be in the position that I’m in now with one race to go,” said Fisher. “I was pretty far back before Calistoga and my main goal was to finish in the top three in points. Now I have a chance to win it all after my victory and I must say, it’s pretty exciting.”

Though it took almost every race in 2014 for Fisher to claim his first win, he’s been no stranger to the podium, as he ripped off a string of seven consecutive top-three finishes earlier in the year, but that streak come to an end in Indianapolis when he crashed during the Indy Mile main event. The accident caused Fisher to finish 16th in the early-August contest and he then had to sit out the next two events at Peoria and Colonial Downs in an effort to let his injuries heal.

Calistoga was Fisher’s first race back since the crash. He hasn’t appeared to have missed a beat.

“I felt completely fine out there,” said Fisher. “I didn’t think about my injury at all while riding. I’m definitely 100 percent as far as my health goes. It’s not my first time getting injured while riding, either. I broke my growth plate in my shoulder once, and just last year I ruptured my spleen. I don’t feel any pain from the injury I suffered at Indy.”

Fisher has established himself as one of the up-and-coming stars of the sport, but what is so impressive about the young rider is that he is just 16 years old and a junior in high school. He grew up less than an hour outside of Castle Rock, Wash., and at this time last year wasn’t even eligible to compete in AMA Pro Flat Track because of his age. Now he’s hooked up with one of the most well-known race teams, TJ Burnett Farms, a crew that has fielded the likes of JD Beach, Briar Bauman, Brandon Robinson and other well-known competitors throughout the paddock.

Fisher has surpassed all expectations for this season and to claim the championship next weekend would just be icing on his cake.
