Defending Grand National Champion Jared Mees excited to try his luck overseas at Superprestigio

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Dec. 10, 2014) – For the first time in his life, Jared Mees went to Europe. Prior to this morning when he landed in Spain, the Clio, Mich. native had never visited any other country besides Canada and Mexico. Mees’s nine total podiums in 2014 combined with his two impressive victories helped him regain the coveted No. 1 plate and Grand National Championship. His season also earned him an invite to one of the most exciting dirt track races on the planet – the Superprestigio in Barcelona, Spain.

Mees is the second Grand National Champion invited to showcase his talent on a global scale against fierce international competition this Saturday in Barcelona. Brad Baker, the 2013 Grand National Champion and defending Superprestigio winner, and Shayna Texter are the other two AMA Pro Flat Track stars who will compete in the world-class event against two-time defending MotoGP champion Marc Marquez and company.

“It’s the same style of racing that Brad and I compete in every weekend on the AMA Pro Flat Track scene so I would hope that we would have a little bit of an advantage over the competition,” said Mees. “Whether I win or perform poorly, I’m just extremely excited and grateful to have the opportunity to do this and fortunate and thankful that I was invited to such a prestigious event. I think Brad, Shayna and I will do a good job representing America. I’m good friends with Brad and I enjoy racing with him. This will definitely make for a cool memory to share later on down the road for sure.”

Mees will compete on the very same Honda CRF450R motorcycle that he races in AMA Pro Flat Track competition. He finished fifth and 12th at DAYTONA Flat Track on the single-cylinder machine, but rebounded nicely with fourth and second place finishes at Castle Rock and Peoria in 2014.

In 2013, Brad Baker was the only AMA Pro Flat Track invitee, and he overwhelmed the international competition, winning the Superprestigio in incredible fashion over Marquez and the rest of the international lineup. This year, Mees will give Baker and the rest of the competitors a good run for their money as they take to the track in front of what is expected to be a massive Spanish and international audience. The race’s outcome is up for grabs, but one thing is for certain, it’s going to be fun to watch.

The Superprestigio is set to begin at noon ET (9 a.m. PT) on Saturday, Dec. 13 and all of the action will be broadcast live on www.FansChoice.tv, the official home for live streaming of all AMA Pro Flat Track events. In addition to FansChoice.tv, the Superprestigio will be available for live viewing at www.cycleworld.com, www.motorcyclistonline.com, www.sportrider.com.
