DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (May 9, 2013) - Excitement is mounting as teams ready themselves for the start of the inaugural Stockton Half-Mile, Round 3 of the AMA Pro Flat Track presented by J&P Cycles championship at the San Joaquin County Fairgrounds, May 11th.
There is nothing in two-wheeled racing that matches the spectacle of AMA Pro Flat Track competition. Fans will be in awe from beginning to end as they watch riders fly around the Stockton Half-Mile, pitching their bikes sideways and sliding through the turns. There is no such thing as pacing in this type of racing…it is all or nothing…with only one rider emerging as the winner.
Not only will this race pit rider against rider, but it will also pit machine against machine. Harley- Davidson, Honda, Aprilia, BMW, Buell, Ducati, Kawasaki, KTM, Suzuki, Triumph and Yamaha all offer models approved for competition in the series.
The AMA Pro Stockton Half-Mile will showcase two classes: the Experts, riding at the highest professional level; and the J&P Cycles Pro Singles riders, a support grid for younger racers making their way up through the ranks. These Pro Singles riders field 450cc single-cylinder, production-based bikes at every venue on the calendar.
Expert riders use these same 450cc machines for TTs and short track events only. The longer Miles and Half-Miles require more power, so for the Stockton Half-Mile, Experts will roll out their big twin-cylinder machines that offer the most powerful muscle on the AMA Pro Flat Track circuit.
When riders first turn a wheel on the Stockton Half-Mile track, they will all be on equal footing. No one has ever raced there and no one will have an advantage. The field will be level. It will simply be a question of dialing in their machinery to conquer the hard-packed clay surface found at the fairgrounds.
“I am really excited about this race,” says Mikey Martin, who won the 2011 Pro Singles Title and moved into the Expert class last season. “I like new tracks and this one will become my hometown track as it is just a few minutes from where I live in Lodi, Calif. I struggled a lot last season, but this year is going to be much better. I have a new bike and new sponsors and I am ready to go. My dream is to win this race. That would be totally awesome…to win in front of all my friends and family. That would be the best ever.”
However, there is a full field of riders who all have the same dream. Gates for this inaugural AMA Pro Stockton Half-Mile will open at noon. Grandstands will open at 2:30pm and timed practice will start at 3:30pm. A rider autograph session will be held from 5:45pm to 6:45pm and Opening Ceremonies will begin at 7:00pm immediately followed by racing.
