Hamilton: Prescott Arizona Report

Second AMA Pro Singles race of 2010...

We left Mansfield, TX about 10 o'clock Thursday night after we had everything loaded and ready to go. Over 1,000 miles to Prescott Valley, Arizona, but by Friday evening we were there in time to check out the new track, grab a bite to eat and get to the hotel for some serious sleep. Up early the next morning and headed to the track. We still had some bike maintenance to take care of when we got everything unloaded. We got through Tech and were ready for practice. So many variables to take in today including the difference in altitude, the chilly/windy day and a track which had never hosted an AMA National Flat Track race before! No one was really sure how the track was going turn out or exactly how my Al Lamb's Dallas Honda 450 would run on the surface so AMA gave us 2 free un-timed practice runs. The first practice session didn't go well as Stephen Vanderkuur crashed coming out of two and was taken to the hospital with a compound fracture in his leg; we hope for a good recovery Stephen! I was the first rider out in the second practice session of pro singles and I also discovered turn two was pretty sketchy; however, I got a good feel for the track and knew we needed to make some gearing changes before the qualifying practices. I was the 8th fastest qualifier in both timed practices out of 24 riders! I was stoked and ready for my first AMA Pro Main Event! I was in the first heat of the day, starting 4th position. I got an amazing start and pulled the hole-shot. I led for about two laps, and was then passed by Carver, but held my position and crossed the finish line with LaBelle and Crawford only inches behind me...it was an amazing finish! After only qualifying for one program in Daytona in March, this felt awesome and so great to be so confidently in the Main Event. I got the same starting position in the main, got another good start, but no hole-shot. I was about 8th coming out of turn two, but by the end of the first lap had worked up to 6th. As we discovered all day...turn two continued to be tricky giving everybody problems and on my next lap around I blew the preferred line and dropped back some from the front pack. I ran the rest of the 12 laps by myself until turn four on the final lap. I could hear bikes behind me coming out of turn four and knew I had to ensure there was a break in the draft to hold on to my position crossing the finish line! 6th, 7th, and 8th place were less than .10 seconds apart. I held on to 6th place for my best national finish, well really my ONLY finish at a national so far this year...haha. My results in Arizona made for an awesome feeling of accomplishment and confidence and I want to thank everybody who helped me to get there including Al Lamb's Dallas Honda, Vadnais Machines (AWESOME MOTOR!), Speedgraffix, Single Source, PPG, Moto Liberty, PMP Sprockets, Durelle Racing, Corder Marketing, Cycle Gear, She Loves Racing, Mom, Dad and glory to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!!! I also want to express thanks to the folks in Prescott Valley, AZ for working so hard to bring a full house to the stands...it was great to be racing in front of a packed venue.

I, and my mom and dad went on a helicopter ride of the Grand Canyon, in the snow, the next day to put an awesome final touch on an amazing weekend! Thanks everyone and we'll be in Springfield, IL Memorial Day weekend for the Springfield TT & Mile!
