JANISCH: Springfield Report

We are off to our second mile of the three in a row on the schedule. Springfield mile is one of the nicest tracks we make it to all season and I was happy to be back on a very familiar track. The big twin went back to Missouri with Travis Smith for some more fine tuning and adjustments during the week in an attempt to improve corner speed. The track was looking great and the weather was perfect for this fall national. It was nice to have General Engineering's Jerry Wilhelmy in our pits helping with suspension decisions throughout the day. We made a few changes after a poor 1st qualifying session and ended up 23rd overall which was a big gain from last weeks 32nd. I was pretty excited after qualifying and being the top Suzuki and was ready to get into the heat race. A good start in the heat helped me move up a few spots and it was nice to get out there and battle and draft with some of the other racers. Finished about 10th in the heat which put me on the 2nd row for the semi. We had the bike working really well so I was hoping the semi would go well. Had some bad luck after having a very good start, when I got on the back straight the clutch started slipping. I put my hand up on the back straight and that was the end of our day. All and all it was a successful day even with a poor result because we made a lot of improvements to the bike and got our times a lot closer to the leaders.

The next race will be the Minnesota Mile, a place that will be brand new for me.

A big thanks to everyone who helped out throughout the weekend, Dick & Ted Weirbach, Travis Smith, Jerry Wilhelmy, and my father Steve Janisch.
