Jared Mees' Lima Half-Mile Report

Here we were at Lima’s Allen County Fairgrounds. This race track has been pretty good to me in the past as it was the site of my very first National win. On the other hand, I have also had some bad luck here as well. With it being a cushion-type track, it is all or nothing.

We started the day behind the 8 ball it seemed like, breaking my bike in the very first lap of practice. So I did not get any practice time at all. We went to our 2nd bike for the qualifying and I was really off the pace, badly needing to make changes. After making a bunch of adjustments I managed to qualify 7th overall.

I was in the 1st Heat with Sammy Halbert, Bryan Smith, Dustin Crow, Chris Carr, JR Schnabel and a lot of other fast riders ...a pretty tough Heat race. I got the hole shot and was running in the lead until Crow and I started to dice it up. Then Dustin had a huge "almost" get-off and Bryan and Sammy got by me. I was unable to hang with then in the Heat, coming in 3rd. That left me out of the Dash for Cash...not good, but I knew that if I could get a couple of things figured out we would be ok in the Main.

For the Main Event I was first pick on the second row so I picked the inside thinking that would do me the best. I got a good jump and was running 5th, then we were red-flagged. The staggered re-start kept me in the 5th spot in the line-up. I got another great jump and was up to 2nd but started to fade back. For a while I was running 3rd until Matt Weidman got by me. In the 4th spot now, I was dicing it up with Brad Baker, back and forth, got a good gap but then made some mistakes and Baker got by me and made it stick. I ended up 5th which wasn’t the result we wanted nor up to where we had finished in other races lately. But our bad nights have been 4th or 5th, so it was a “good bad night” I guess one could say.

Next we have the All Stars Series races at Frederick MD on the 4th of July, and Winchester VA on the 8th. The next National is at Hagerstown MD. I look forward to seeing you all there.

Thank you to the fans , my team, and sponsors for all you do.
