JD Beach and Joe Kopp take Peoria National Hot Shoe

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (June 15, 2009) - At 40 years old, Joe Kopp is still one of the most versatile flat track riders on the AMA Pro Flat Track National Hot Shoe Series and Grand National Championship. Kopp took the win Sunday at the National Hot Shoe races held in Peoria, Illinois. Taking the win in the Pro Singles was American Honda and Red Bull sponsored rider J.D. Beach from Philpot, Kentucky.
Fifty nine riders from across the country made the trip to the beautiful Peoria TT track to compete for National Hot Shoe points and a $10,000 purse. Many riders also call this their warm-up race for the AMA Pro Grand National TT to be held on Sunday, August 23rd. Scratch heats and heats were held to determine the top 18 riders for each main event.
Joe Kopp riding the Bob Lampheres CRF 450 Honda took the win in the Expert Main event over Pro Honda sponsored rider Jared Mees, also riding a Honda. Making it an all Honda podium, Joshua Butler on the Cole Racing Honda rounded out the top three. Once known as the Prince of Peoria with 13 National Peoria TT Wins, Chris Carr took his DFW Honda to fourth over Kawasaki mounted Jesse Janisch.
In the Expert Singles National Hot Shoe point standings, Jared Mees is leading with 57 points, Carr second with 51 and JR Schnabel in third with 43 points.
Young sensation JD Beach picked the Peoria TT to make his first Hot Shoe appearance this year and came away a winner. Jeff Carver riding the YZF450 Vans Yamaha was second with D. Slosser on the Greenland & Son Masonry Honda picking up third.
Pro Single National Hot Shoe point leader Michael Toon with 46 points could only manage an 11th on the lightening fast TT track. Andrew Smith who is second in points finished 7th with Shayna Texter third with 39 points had a difficult day, crashing earlier failed to qualify for the main event.
Round 5 will take place on Saturday, July 4th at the Frederick Fairgrounds in Frederick, Maryland.
