Luker, Jones earn memorable GNC2 victories at DAYTONA Flat Track to kick off 2015 AMA Pro Flat Track season

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (March 18, 2015) - It's official, AMA Pro Flat Track GNC2 rider Andrew Luker has arrived, and only one day removed from his 17th birthday, Luker shocked the flat track world with a Round 1 GNC2 main event win at DAYTONA Flat Track in his second event at the professional level.

Luker's debut victory is the second time in the last three seasons that a rider competing in GNC2 has come out and won either their first or second career race. In 2013, Kyle Johnson won Round 1 at Daytona in similar fashion, and then later went on to win the GNC2 championship a year later. If Johnson's quick success is any indication of what Luker's immediate future might entail, another AMA Pro Flat Track star may very well be in the making.

Luker followed up his debut Daytona victory with a fourth place finish on Friday night on his Clayton Williams Racing Honda, earning him sole possession of first place in the GNC2 point standings heading into Round 3.

Justin Jones sits second in the points after following up his fifth place Round 1 finish with a Round 2 victory on Friday night aboard his RLJ Racing Honda. The win was Jones' first of his career and he appears to be on the brink of a breakout season after cracking the top 10 in points following his sophomore campaign in 2014.

Like Luker, Dalton Gauthier is another young rider to watch in 2015. Gauthier impressed in his first races as a professional with seventh and third place finishes at Daytona aboard his Scott Powersports Yamaha.

"I'm glad I could get on the podium in my pro debut," said Gauthier recalling his third place finish. "I got off to a bad start, but I eventually caught up with Justin (Jones) after making my way up and, luckily, I was able to position myself in third by the end of the race."

Gauthier leaves Daytona third in the points.

After losing out on the GNC2 championship by one point in 2014, Davis Fisher didn't get off to the greatest start on Thursday, finishing 13th in the Round 1 main event. The Parkinson Brothers Racing Honda pilot would go on to rebound quite nicely, however, as he claimed a second place finish in the Round 2 main event on Friday night.

"We had a rough day on Thursday but we made some major improvements on Friday, which resulted in a second place finish for us," said Fisher. "We totally flipped the bike on Friday and it seemed to work pretty well. I'm excited for the rest of the season with my team."

Fisher's runner-up performance on Friday pulled him back up to fourth in the GNC2 points heading into Round 3.

Last year's DAYTONA Flat Track Round 2 winner, Brandon Wilhelm, earned ninth and fifth place finishes this time around and sits fifth in the points. Wilhelm rode a Wilhelm Racing Honda in both races.

John Vanderlaan shocked many people with his second place finish in his first professional race in Round 1 on Thursday aboard his Southland Racing Honda. However, he failed to make the main event on Friday and now remains seventh in the points.

Like Vanderlaan, Dan Bromley got on the podium on Thursday, but failed to make the main on Friday. Bromley, riding a Bromley Brothers KTM, sits 11th in the GNC2 point standings heading into Round 3.
