MEDFORD, OR (October 14, 2013) - It was a win, win, win situation for the Motorcycle-Superstore.com support riders as they slid into the final round of the AMA Pro Flat Track J&P Cycles Pro Singles Championship series in Pomona, California. The title was up for grabs and Wyatt Maguire, Ryan Wells and current champion Stephen VanderKuur all had a mathematical shot at it, but it was J.R. Addison who stood on top of the podium Saturday night.
For Addison, this was his first (actual) overall win in the J&P Cycles Pro Singles class. Addison was awarded the win two weeks earlier at the Santa Rosa Mile when he set the fastest qualifying time, but then the race was cancelled due to inclement weather. His fast time was obviously not a fluke as he powered his Parkinson Bros. Racing/Honda to another "fast" time and the eventual win.
"Pomona was definitely a dream race, I guess you could say. After setting the fast time in qualifying and going on to win my heat by four and a half seconds, I took my first official win by seven seconds,'" explained Addison who reigns from Bucyrus, Ohio. "I got off to an early lead with the holeshot and had a clear track to ride my own race. I had everything going for me and I definitely couldn't have done it without all my family, Parkinson Bros. Racing, J&F Construction, and all my other sponsors."
Second behind Addison was the magical Mr. Wells who was hoping to pull a rabbit out of his helmet and come away with the win and the championship, but the fourth place finish by Wyatt Maguire was just enough for him to finish the season with a one point lead and leave Pomona with the title. Third place on the night went to Kyle Johnson which made it a complete podium sweep for the Motorcycle-Superstore.com brigade. Superstore riders Dominic Colindres and Stephen VanderKuur finished 5th and 9th.
Addison may have won the race but Maguire is now the 2013 J&P Cycles ProSingles Champion.
"Well, I guess it's still just kind of unreal," explained Maguire, two days after winning the title. "It's something I've wanted for a long time and I've worked my butt off to get here. I mean, nothing can really explain how excited I am. It's more of an emotional thing and the expressions on everyone's faces that makes it all seem unreal. It's awesome that we won with all the ups and downs we had this year. I can't help but smile."
Maguire's team manager, Larry Kirkland, was just as excited and had some very positive comments about his new champion and his team. "It's been a long, hard season with its ups and downs, and I appreciate the hard work done by the entire Kirkland Racing Team. Wyatt is one of the best kids you'll ever meet on and off the track. He is supported by a great family, he works hard, rides hard and appreciates everything you do for him. He is a true champion to say the least. We will support him in whatever he wants to do next year."
With the AMA Pro Flat Track season coming to a close, it will be another five months before we see the riders return to the oval with the 2014 opening round kicking off at the traditional Daytona International Speedway. For continuing information, tune into www.amaproracing.com.
