Hey everyone,

This last weekend was the final round of the AMA Pro GNC Singles in Prescott, Arizona. I arrived at the track Saturday morning about an hour before practice. I had some time to look at the track even though I rode it at the beginning of the year. I walked into turn one to see how the track was going to be, I knew we were going to stay low and close to the guardrail. I was excited to start practice so I got ready and went to staging.

I went out and tried putting some fast laps in but my gearing was wrong. When I came in, I told the crew we needed to change to a 1 tooth smaller sprocket on the rear and then I was ready for qualifying. I pushed hard and did some fast laps. I qualified 3rd the first qualifying session but there are two sessions and the heat races are based on the best of the two timed qualifying sessions.

I went out for the second session and I made some mistakes and the track got faster. I ended up qualifying 8th overall. My teammate and I both qualified in the top 10, which is always good to be in the top twelve because that puts you on the front row in the heat race. I was in the first heat and had some top riders in my race. We line up, the light goes green, I’m 4th into turn 1, then draft past 2 riders on the back straight witch put me into 2nd behind Jeffery Carver. I drafted past him after a few laps, but he drafted me back. On the last lap coming out of turn 4, I pulled out of the draft and almost passed him at the line, but it just wasn’t enough. This put me 4th on the front row in the main. I knew what I needed to do to win this thing.

We made some adjustments to my bike before I went out for the main. The horn sounds and we all lined up, the light goes green...I’m in 4th going into turn 1, draft past Chaz Springsteen on the first lap which put me in 3rd behind Jeffery Carver and Brad Baker. I watched their lines to see where I could pass them. It was about at the halfway point and a rider went down, which causes a red flag.

We line back up for the restart. I take off and I'm in 5th behind Mike Avila, Springsteen, Baker, and Carver. I went wide in turn one but I managed to square up the corner to get a good drive and drafted past Avila and Springsteen on the outside on the back straight. I started running down Baker and Carver, but another rider went down and caused a restart. We wait a little for the riders to make sure their bikes are okay and safe to bring back on the track. We line back up I get a great start and I'm in 3rd. There are only six laps left. Pushing as hard as I can, I drafted past Baker and Carver the next lap. I try pulling away, but Carver went back by me.

On two laps to go I was in 3rd passing the line, I pushed hard and tried not to make mistakes. On the white flag I was leading and I tried to pull away. Coming out of turn four I hugged the inside down the straightaway and my teammate Mike LaBelle just got me at the line by 0.012. It was the funniest race all year.
