MARTIN: Canterbury Park Report

Hey everyone. This last weekend was Round 15 for the AMA Pro GNC Singles. It was in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I came into this race confident from my results from the Springfield Mile; I'm getting faster and faster on big tracks. The first practice went okay, I was just trying to get used to the track and find some fast lines. I knew where I needed to get faster, and the second practice I felt a little faster. We changed the gearing, but I still wasn't getting great qualifying times. This track was slick, so it was hard for me to go fast. I ended up qualifying 13th not a great qualifying place, but it¹s going to work. I was on the back row in the 2nd heat race. I didn¹t get the start I was hoping for, I pushed and pushed, but was sliding everywhere, and I could not find any traction. I pasted a few riders, but not enough to advance to the main, I ended up 7th and only the top 5 went straight to the main. In my semi I was on the front row, we took off and I got a great start. Michael Toon and I pulled away and were battling the whole race, I was leading coming out on the last lap and he drafted by and got me at the line. I had found a fast line for the main.

I was nervous, about starting on the 2nd row on the outside so I was hoping to ride the outside on the first lap to pass as many riders as I could. I was ready, the light went green, I got a great start, I was in 7th and I was pushing as hard as I could, I was trying to pick off more riders, but the track was getting more and more slippery. I was trying the high line and then moved to the low line and I lost a few positions, close to the end of the race I made a move on the riders in front of me, then on the back straight away on the last lap my bike lost power and wouldn't run so I pulled off the track. I was bummed the bike broke. I pushed it across the line after the checkered. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the fans that came into the pits for words of encouragement. I would also like to thank Dick Weirbach and Jerry Wilhelmy of General Engineering for all the hard work this week getting the bikes ready for Knoxville, Iowa this weekend. As of right now it looks like the bikes will be ready. Thanks to all my sponsors and a big thank you the Carver family for making me feel like family in there home the last few weeks. I'm going to miss them, but I am ready to go home for a while. It's been a long race season. Hope to see you in Knoxville.
