Martin: Hagerstown Report
Hey everyone this last weekend was in Hagerstown Maryland. A lot of riders were saying this track was like Calistoga witch was the previous weekend in California. I was pretty confident I could do well. I went out for my first practice, it felt really good and I ended up qualifying 8th the first round. We still had 2 qualifying practices left, we made some additional changes to my suspension and gearing for the next practice. I went out for the second practice and bike ran really hard but the track was so slippery, it was hard to get a fast lap. There was one more practice to improve so we made some adjustments and I went out one more time and ended up qualifying 10th. I was happy I made the front row for the heat. We had an hour intermission, then the horn sounded I was in the second heat. I¹m at the line the light goes green I get a great start I¹m in 3rd behind Rispoli and Baker, on the second lap I was going into turn one under Baker and hit a slick spot and lost the rear and crashed. They restarted the race and I had to start on the third row. I made it up to 9th but couldn¹t gain anymore positions so I was headed to the semi. It was only 20 minutes between the heats and the semi. When the horn went off we walked to the line for the semi. Only 4 riders advance to the main event. I got a great start, I lead it from wire to wire, I tried to not make mistakes and ride my own race. I was nervous for the main and had to start on the third row. The Pro Singles are the first race up. We move to the line, light goes green I hold it wide open around the out side and found myself in 6th. I was pushing so hard, I wanted a podium, but there was a red flag. On the staggered restart I was all the way on the bottom of the track, the light went green; I spun hard and watched 2 bikes pass me on the start. I thought I could still get top 5 but made a big mistake on the 10th lap and I went really wide and couldn¹t hook up I fell back to 11th. I was so mad witch made me try harder and it made me spin more and more. I ended up 12th. The team was happy to make the main and gain some points in the overall standings after the fall in the heat, but I always want to do better. The next round is the TT in Peoria IL.
It will be the first time I will ride this track and I cant wait for it.
Please come out and watch us then stop by the pit area and say Hi.
