Mees: Arizona Race Report

Prescott, AZ

For it being Arizona it was pretty chilly. Seems the cold weather is following the race circuit. I felt great in practice, was anywhere between 2nd to 4th fastest throughout practice and qualifying. I ended up 3rd overall which was pole in the 3rd Heat race. In the Heat I got the hole shot, but Kenny Coolbeth and Matt Weidman got by me. I returned the favor and started to make a little ground, winning the Heat, putting me in the Dash. I have not won a Dash yet so am still looking for that. I got a good start but Sam got through turns 1 and 2 fast and I couldn't get going fast enough, getting drafted by Coolbeth, finishing 3rd.

In the Main Event I got third pick I lined up next to Sammy on the inside. The first start was good but we were red-flagged right away due to dust--the riders simply could not see.

After some more watering, the next start was good and I got the hole shot. Sammy and Joe Kopp got me right away and I sort of wasn't sure of where I wanted to be early on. I dropped back to 6th or 7th and finally started riding and moving forward. I got by Jake Johnson and started back and forth with Chris Carr. I made up some time and then Coolbeth came up and got us both, leaving us behind. I finally got by Carr for good and ran down Coolbeth. Coming off turn 4 I had a really good run and was set to go by as I spun and lost my drive. I missed 3rd spot on the podium by a wheel length. I was a little disappointed as I felt I had come on strong to earn it.

The promoter did an outstanding job with the race track. For it being the first time having a motorcycle race on a horse-type track it was the best horse sand mile track I have ever raced. Hats off to them and the AMA for their hard work. It was a huge success, the house was packed, standing-room only. I look forward to going back in October.

So now we are on our way home and will be ready for Springfield. Points are looking tight, very tight, so it will be a fun and interesting year.

Thanks to all the fans who came out and to my great Sponsors. Until next time,
Jammin' Jared Mees # 1.
