National Hot Shoe Heads to Frederick County Fairgrounds

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (June 30, 2009) - The word "classic" has a lot of meaning and has become an overused word in describing events, with few things actually deserving of the "classic" tag. One of them, however, is the Barbara Fritchie Classic Championship Motorcycle Race, held annually at the Frederick County Fairgrounds in Frederick, Maryland for over three quarters of a century. Like any bona fide classic, this race has stood the test of time. It's a Fourth of July tradition and this year's race will celebrate the 87th running of the Barbara Fritichie Classic as round five of the AMA Pro Flat Track National Hot Shoe Series.

Riders from all over the country will make the trip to Frederick this weekend, including three-time AMA Pro Grand National Twins Champion Kenny Coolbeth along with this season's Bulls Gap, Tenn., Grand National Twins winner Sammy Halbert.

This year's Barbara Fritchie Classic will be the first National Hot Shoe race to combine the Pro Twins and Expert Twins classes. The move was made in an effort to streamline the class structure and improve the quality of the racing product for the fans. The Twins class will run according to the Expert Twins Class Technical Standards. Expert Singles and Pro Singles riders will also compete in the Fritchie Classic for a guranteed combined purse of $10,000.00.
