New Name atop Grand National Championship Point Standings
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (April 25, 2013) – After claiming his first professional victory last month at DAYTONA Flat Track, and also recording a top-five finish on his No. 44 TJ Burnett Farms/USC Racing Kawasaki KX450F in the season opener, Brandon Robinson (Lancaster, Pa.) finds himself in unfamiliar territory as he sits atop the AMA Pro Grand National Championship point standings heading into Round 3 at the Stockton Half-Mile.
“It feels great being in the position that I’m in at the moment,” said Robinson. “My team and I have worked very hard and put ourselves in position to succeed at this level. I’m not going to sit here and say I’ll maintain the No. 1 spot all season but I do know I’ll be pressing for it. I’m just going to take my performance at Daytona as a good sign and know that I have the team and support required to make a strong run this season.”
Robinson’s best overall finish in the points came last season when he finished 11th. After flashing signs of greatness at the back-end of 2012, and dominating rounds one and two earlier this season, many believe the 22-year-old Robinson is on the verge of breaking out and becoming a household name among the other stars of the sport.
“As long as I take it race by race and continue to keep a good head on my shoulders, I believe my team and I have a good chance to hang with the competition throughout the season,” said Robinson. “Any way you want to look at it, the championship is completely up for grabs this year as there is just so much incredible talent all throughout the paddock.”
Robinson isn’t the only new name atop the 2013 Grand National Championship point standings this year. Machete Energy’s Mikey Rush (San Jose, Calif.) rode his No. 54 Honda CRF450R with tenacity at the season opener and put up statistics almost identical to Robinson’s.
On May 11, 2013, the stars of AMA Pro Flat Track presented by J&P Cycles will roll out their two-cylinder machines for the first time this season as they head out west to Stockton, Calif. and battle it out at the San Joaquin County Fairgrounds for the Stockton Half-Mile.
