Sacramento, CA- PJ Jacobsen made a bold statement this past weekend at the Grand National Twins Sacramento Mile at the Cal Expo Fair in Sacramento, CA. The Sacramento outing was the first time this year that PJ was able to make an appearance at a Flat Track event.

Jacobsen has raced in Moto GP two years ago and for the past year has been the youngest rider in the AMA’s Daytona SportBike class. But he is no stranger to Flat Track racing and is often seen out on the track or ice working his skills on different terrains.

PJ said, “It is really great to have the chance to be here in Sacramento, riding side by side with many of the racers that I idolized when I was growing up. It’s really an honor to share the track with greats like Kenny Coolbeth.”

Jacobsen posted the track’s fastest times during the last qualifier on his Moroney’s fasthog.com weissracing.com Harley-Davidson XR-750. Averaged with his other posts, he qualified 6th. “The Harley felt really great, and Bob Weiss and Pat Moroney had it tuned really well,” PJ said. “There is a pretty big style adjustment going back and forth from Daytona Sport Bike to Flat Track, but the challenge is exciting.”

Pat Moroney added, “PJ got T-boned right after the pack got up to speed. He smashed his fingers pretty badly, and must have been in a lot of pain. He showed his talent and determination by not crashing and hanging on to his XR-750 to finish the race. Most riders would have pulled off.”

“It was an amazing save,” Bob Weiss added. “But that’s why I enjoy working with PJ so much; he really rolls with the punches and performs incredibly well under all conditions.”

PJ fell to the back of the pack before regaining his composure and ultimately fighting his way back to finishing 13th in the race. When asked if he was disappointed at the finish, PJ flashed his characteristic smile and said, “No way. In qualifying, I retained my National Number 99, and I had a great race with some of the world’s best Flat Track riders.”

With a month to go to the next Daytona SportBike event at NJ Motorsports Park over Labor Day Weekend, PJ will have the chance to compete in two more Flat Track events in August.

“We will be going to the famous Peoria TT on Sunday August 21st, where PJ will ride the American Honda backed Moroney’s fasthog.com Honda CRF450 for the first time this year,” Pat Moroney said. “Then on Saturday, August 27th, we will break out the XR750s again and race the Indy Mile. PJ is always super-fast on the miles and we are looking forward to his first podium finish!”

Bob Weiss of Weiss Racing will again be turning the wrenches for PJ, as well as providing parts and prep for the bikes. “We’ll have some extra time to dial in both the Honda and the Harley for PJ,” Bob said. “They’re both great bikes, and PJ can adjust well to both rides. I really think we can put him on the box!”
