Q/A Session with Steve Murray About his Ron Wood Built No. 51 BMW

The beautiful BMW Flat Track masterpiece built by owner Ron Wood will be ridden by National Number 51 Steve Murray at the Springfield Mile on Sunday, May 24th. We ask Murray about the ride.

Q. WHY ARE YOU RIDING THE BMW AT SPRINGFIELD?
A. I think it will do a really big wheelie! Nah, I'm excited to ride a different motorcycle. The Harley's have been dominant for so long, and the Suzuki's and Aprilia's have been getting closer, I was hoping we could add BMW to that mix as well. Ron has a little bit of history of outside the box thinking and making it work. I like to do different stuff and I like Springfield and get around there pretty well, and we think the track will suit the BMW pretty well. I'm also optimistic that we can do well and we can start working on a program for 2010 and try and convince BMW into creating a stronger presence in Dirt Track when this economic crisis turns around.

Q. HAVE YOU RIDDEN THE BIKE BEFORE? IF SO, WHAT DID YOU THINK OF IT.
A. I rode the bike at Eddie Mulder's WCVDTS event at Willow Springs. The bike was surprising to me and it doesn't feel like a twin. It feels more like one of the big Rotax singles that I grew up on, but on crack. It's bigger, heavier, faster, more fun to ride, and it sounds awesome.

Q. WHAT ARE YOUR EXPECTATIONS?
A. Another top 5 would be great. It's a great motorcycle and Ron did an awesome job with it so I'm hoping to be running up front and surprising some people. Hey as long as we don't end up in the air fence i'll be happy!

Q. WILL YOU RIDE THE BMW AT ANY OTHER RACE THIS YEAR?
A. I'm hoping to ride the BMW at all the miles if we can get a deal put together and worked out.

Q. HAVE YOU HEARD IF BMW IS GOING TO GET BEHIND THE PROJECT?
A. I have not heard if BMW was going to get behind the project. I know they gave Ron 2 motors and since then I don't think they're has been alot of support which is a shame. The BMW Dealers and Riders I have talked to have been very excited about it. It would be nice if BMW would get involved and get some support out to a few riders as the motor is very capable of good results.

Q. ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT TO ADD:
A. I'd like to thank Ron Wood and Wood Rotax for the opportunity to ride this motorcycle, my dad and my harley dealer for understanding and letting me leave our trusty XR in the pits, and the rest of my sponsors.
