MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (September 17, 2010) – As the season nears the end, Scott Powersports/DR.D/Pit Posse/Monster Energy’s Johnny Lewis went to Canterbury Park Mile, Round 15 of the AMA Pro K&N Filters Grand National Championship (GNC) presented by Motorcycle-Superstore.com series after having finished ninth the previous weekend. On Saturday evening, September 11th, Lewis earned yet another top-ten GNC Twins finish with an eighth place and now sits in tenth in the entire AMA Pro GNC series.

Lewis is competing in both the Singles (450cc motocross-based race bikes) and Twins (650cc - 1200cc race bikes) events for the first time in his young career. Last year, he only committed to the Singles races before suffering an injury. With the support of Scott Powersports, Custom Axis Racing Shocks, FLUIDYNE and his other sponsors, Lewis was able to put together a program to compete in all four types of AMA Pro GNC events: short track, TT, half-mile and mile. At the Twins rounds, he is racing a white-and-red custom Scott Powersports Kawasaki Ninja 650 flat tracker.

Prior to the Canterbury Park Mile, Lewis competed in the traditional Labor Day Weekend Springfield Mile in Illinois. There he raced with the series veterans to a ninth-place finish which was his first top-ten ever in a Mile race and only his second top-ten in an AMA Pro GNC Twins event.

Canterbury Park is a new facility for the AMA Pro series located near one of the largest metro areas in the nation. Lewis and his team traveled to Canterbury Park a day early to check out the track and facility. They were impressed. On race day, the fan turnout was one of the largest this season.

The Scott Powersports team had a learning curve this season on the development of its new Kawasaki 650 flat tracker. The mechanical know-how and many long hours led to success in Springfield and Minneapolis. At the Canterbury Park Mile, the DR.D/Pit Posse/Monster Energy-sponsored Lewis qualified in tenth for the evening program. In his heat race he battled on his torquey bike to earn a fourth place.

The stage was set for the 25-lap main event. Lewis was lined up in the middle of the starting grid. During the race on the well-groomed track he worked his way through the pack, battling with current and past champions. Lewis fought hard and used the power and light weight of his Scott Powersports Kawasaki to finish eighth at the checkers.

Lewis sad, “We have the bike dialed in now. Mike Scott and his crew have made the right adjustments to get me in the main event and have the reliability for an entire race. I am so excited to have a eighth place at an AMA GNC Mile. That is huge! The fans were excited all weekend which got me even more pumped. They seemed to enjoy the whole race day experience. I ran out of posters even before the end of the race. I’m looking forward to going back to Canterbury again next year and getting a top five finish!”

Lewis finished seventh in the final AMA Pro GNC Singles standings. There are no more rounds remaining for the Singles races. In the overall AMA Pro GNC series standings, Lewis is tenth with 103 points.

The next stop on the AMA Pro K&N Filters Grand National Championship presented by Motorcycle-Superstore.com will be the Knoxville Half-Mile this Saturday, September 18 at the Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa. This is a GNC Twins race where Lewis will again be on his #10 white-and-red custom Scott Powersports’ Kawasaki 650 flat-tracker.
