Shayna Texter poised to take next step in her career, starting with Superprestigio appearance

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Dec. 12, 2014) – It’s no secret Shayna Texter is one of the up-and-coming stars of AMA Pro Flat Track. She has become a household name in the American racing scene and tomorrow she will suit up in Barcelona, Spain to compete in the Superprestigio short track exhibition against world-class riders from all walks of life.

Shayna’s brother, Cory Texter, said on his Flat Track Weekly Radio Show on Friday that Shayna has looked sharp in her first couple rounds of practice in Spain.

“She was only two or three tenths of a second off Brad (Baker) and Jared (Mees) during practice yesterday and she’s looking pretty comfortable on the new bike,” Cory said.

As far as Shayna’s time to prepare for her first ever Superprestigio, there was none. In fact, Shayna wasn’t told that she had gotten the invitation to the event until last Thursday, Dec. 4, just four days prior to her departure. By comparison, Baker was already en route to Spain when Shayne got her invite.

“The only adversity she’s facing while being over there is she didn’t find out until about a week ago,” Cory said on his show. “They mentioned earlier in the year that they wanted to shake up the event a little bit and possibly bring a female rider over.”
Then she got the call. Shayna would be headed to Barcelona for the first time ever, and she would be competing against defending Superprestigio champ Baker, defending Grand National Champion Mees, MotoGP champion Marc Marquez and several other noteworthy international competitors.

"I'm thrilled to be able to represent America and compete against my fellow competitors here in the states as well as Marc Marquez and the rest of the competition on such a big stage," Shayna said.

Shayna might not yet be as decorated as Baker and Mees, but she has undoubtedly turned heads in her young career. She’s also shown marked improvement like moving through the ranks. While she might not be picked as many as a favorite, there’s a lot of excitement building around just how well she’ll do, and there’s talk of her landing on the podium.

Regardless, the fact that she’s in Spain, representing AMA Pro Flat Track and America, is a feat within itself. She’s a great icon to many American fans and aspiring female motorcycle racers, and they appear to be loving her over in Spain as well.

The Superprestigio is set to begin at noon ET (9 a.m. PT) on Saturday, Dec. 13 and all of the action will be broadcast live on www.FansChoice.tv, the official home for live streaming of all AMA Pro Flat Track events. In addition to FansChoice.tv, the Superprestigio will be available for live viewing at www.cycleworld.com, www.motorcyclistonline.com, www.sportrider.com.
