(October 10, 2012) - On Saturday October 6th after a five year absence professional Motorcycle Racing returned to Tucson Arizona. Once named USA Raceway, the Tucson landmark has had many a newcomer attempt to leave their mark, tonight was no exception!
Shayna Texter from Willow Street Pennsylvania and Team RLT mechanic, Doug Hersh prepped the DFW Honda CRF 450 Single, for Qualifying. By the end of the first round she was in P2. As the heat and track conditions began to change the 3/8’s mile semi-banked clay oval - the second round of qualifying saw Shayna drop her time a bit posting a 3rd position over-all.
As the Paddock area opened to the Fans, which has become an AMA Pro ritual, allowing spectators full access to the riders – Shayna prepared for questions and autographs. “This is one of the best things that AMA Pro Racing has done to grow our Sport” stated Texter. “The down side”, she laughed, “is that being one of two or three Women Racing in our sport, I tend to sign and spend more time with the Fans” - prior to the race. Texter has had to cope with missed meals and lack of rest in some cases. At just twenty one, studying in her fourth year of College, Shayna attends the University of California at Pennsylvania by On-Line Web. Shayna is working on a Bachelor degree in Sports Management and is seeking a minor degree in Wellness and Fitness for the future. Today however she lives much of her life traveling over 40,000 miles a year chasing her Dream.
Once the introductions were made, Shayna donned her ARAI Helmet and began to stage for the 8 lap Heat Race in the AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore Pro Singles class. Rolling to the starting line, the 5 foot – 95 pound Blonde took her mount to the front row of the 2nd Heat. At the Green, Shayna was running second coming out of three and going into the forth turn Texter then passed the leader. At the Checkered Flag Shayna won by a margin of 2.2 seconds which ironically was the fastest lap for both the Twins and Singles combined. Crediting set-up and work from both Rich Hanson and Doug Hersh as to how the bike was handling.
Action was heating up after two Heat races and the LCQ (Last Chance Qualifier) event.
Now it was time for the final race of the night, the Main with 16 laps. “Starting on the pole (1st spot) I got a hole-shot” stated Shayna as she met with the Media. “Getting the DFW Honda out front I was able to pull the rest of the field” Texter went on recounting her performance. “With 5 laps left a racer crashed and the Red Flag came out.” When this happens Racers return to the Start-Finish line and await instructions for the re-start. “We staged for the re-start I got off the line first but got passed by Rodney Spencer in turn 3-4” Shayna was tired but was giving the reporters as much information as she could. Another crash took place and this time putting the riders in a staggered single-file line for the green. With just five laps to go Shayna was running outside of Rodney sizing him up. “On the final lap going into three I knew what I had to do, my bike was under me and I was gonna go-for-it.” Shayna ran to his outside and coming off of turn four and was able to drive off for the lead to take the Win and her 3rd AMA Pro GNC National of 2012.
