SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (May 12, 2021) – In honor of the late Hall of Famer Babe DeMay, the promoters of the Springfield Mile are proud to introduce the inaugural Memphis Shades Babe DeMay Challenge, a dash for cash that will premiere during the Labor Day doubleheader event in Springfield, Illinois.
Former competitor on the AMA Grand National circuit and AMA Hall of Famer, Babe DeMay passed away in October of 2020. A lifelong supporter of professional flat track and a native of Tennessee, DeMay had strong ties to Memphis Shades, running their race teams for many years.
Beginning with the Memphis Shades Springfield Mile I presented by Law Tigers on September 4, AFT Production Twins presented by Vance & Hines competitors will line up for a chance to win $5,000. The top two finishers from each AFT Production Twins Semi will form the four-rider grid for a four-lap shootout for the $5K prize. With this year’s doubleheader event format, that means there will be a staggering $10,000 on the line for riders in the class.
“We are so excited that Memphis Shades is providing this opportunity to the talented riders in the AFT Production Twins class,” said Dave Kiesow, Promoter of the Springfield Mile. They put on an exciting show and we are thrilled they will be given this opportunity to race for some extra cash at our event.”
Tickets for the Memphis Shades Springfield Mile I and II presented by Law Tigers on September 4-5, 2021 are on sale now at https://www.springfieldmile.org.
