CALISTOGA, California (May 3, 2018) – Coming off a season-best second-place finish in the AFT Singles division, Shayna Texter (Husqvana Motorcycles, JCS Racing, Parts Unlimited/Drag Specialties) has plenty of momentum heading into Saturday’s Calistoga Half-Mile, round 4 of the 2018 American Flat Track season.
Texter placed second in last Saturday’s Texas Half-Mile aboard the No. 52 Husqvarna FC 450. Timed 31st fastest in the opening practice session, Texter showed remarkable improvement throughout the program, with an impressive run to the front in her Semi race that had the grandstand crowd on its feet, and in the Main event pressuring the eventual winner in the closing laps but coming up just a half-bike shy of victory.
The promising run marked an impressive performance from Texter, who has made quick work of adjusting to not only running her own race team, but also to her bike, having moved to Husqvarna ahead of the 2018 campaign.
Last weekend’s Texas round opened a streak of competition on six straight weekends for the AFT competitors. Texter took advantage of a similar busy stretch in 2017, scoring four consecutive podium finishes early in the season to challenge for the Singles championship.
“Texas was great, especially since it was the first time I took my new Husqvarna onto a half-mile track,” Texter said. “We’re carrying a lot of momentum from the second-place finish and being in the hunt to take the win coming into Calistoga. From the first time I got on the bike, I felt comfortable. And now I just get more confidence every time I ride the Husqvarna. We’re continuing to get seat time and learn something every time we go out.”
A year ago, the Calistoga event was held in late July as Texter passed four bikes in the closing laps to finish fifth, maintaining her lead in the championship.
“I had a rough night at Calistoga last year, and I was happy to leave with a fifth-place finish,” Texter said. “But I’m not going into the races based on how I ran last year; I’m more concerned about how I ran last weekend. This is a completely new year – a new me, a new team, a new bike, new everything. Coming back to Calistoga, it’s exciting to be heading into the second half-mile of the year. We’ll have a little bit of a base, since we have a half-mile race underneath us now and we will keep working on our speed to get back on top.”
After Calistoga, action continues with consecutive weekend visits to Phoenix, Ariz.; Sacramento, California; Springfield, Illinois; and Lexington, Kentucky – all Miles, where Texter excels.
Saturday’s schedule at Calistoga Speedway begins with Singles practice and qualifying at 2 p.m. PT. The first heat race begins at 6 p.m., with the opening semi at 7:45 p.m. The 15-lap main event is set to start at 8:35 p.m. All on-track activity will be live streamed on www.fanschoice.tv. The race will be televised on NBCSN on Sunday, May 20, at noon ET.
