OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (June 14, 2018) – Coming off an impressive third-place finish at the recent Red Mile, Shayna Texter will be looking to give Husqvarna its first American Flat Track (AFT) win as the series heads to Oklahoma for Saturday’s OKC Mile at Remington Park.
The ST52 Racing rider brings her strong history at the track as the defending winner of the AFT Singles event. Now riding for her ST52 Racing squad, Texter has been building momentum through the 2018 season including a strong run in her most recent outing two weeks ago.
Opting to start the main event from the outside of the second row in the Indian Motorcycle Red Mile in Lexington, Ky., Texter sprinted into contention from the green light. She ran near the front throughout the 15-lap event and led on numerous occasions as the top three riders shuffled positions on every lap. She made a last-lap bid for the checkered flag, coming up 0.049 seconds short.
Having seen her hard work on race starts begin to pay dividends in Kentucky, Texter is looking to continue that again in Oklahoma City.
Last year saw the Pennsylvania native fight her way through traffic all night long on her way to victory. In the 2017 event, she had a part failure negate a second-place finish in her heat, forcing her to run the last chance qualifier – which she won. Starting the semi on the back row, Texter gained two positions on the final lap to finish third and earn a front-row starting position for the feature race. She ran near the front throughout the 15-lap main event, making her move to take the lead with two laps remaining and won by 0.141 seconds.
The OKC Mile marks the halfway point of the 2018 AFT Singles campaign. After eight of the 18 races, Texter is sixth in the points, trailing fourth place by only five points.
“It is a boost to go into a weekend on a track where you have had good results, so I’m really looking forward to being on the Husqvarna and racing on a mile again this weekend,” said Texter. “I’m proud of how this team has gelled through a very busy first part of the AFT season and after we’ve all had a weekend at home, we are eager to get back to racing.”
The OKC Mile program begins with Singles practice at 3:30 p.m. CT, followed by qualifying rounds at 4:15 and 5 p.m. The evening program opens with heat races at 6:15 p.m., followed by the semis at 7:14 p.m. The 15-lap main event gets the green at 9 p.m. CT (10 p.m. ET).
