SACRAMENTO, Calif. (July 27, 2012) - The countdown has begun and excitement is mounting as riders ready themselves for the running of the 47th AMA Pro Sacramento Mile, Saturday, July 28th at Cal Expo.

Arriving in Sacramento from all over the country, the stars of AMA Pro Flat Track competition are ready to battle their way to glory in an all out attempt to win the famed Sacramento Mile.

The oldest and most exciting form of two-wheeled racing in America today, there is nothing that quite matches the spectacle of AMA Pro Flat Track competition. Fans will be in awe from beginning to end as they watch riders fly around the Sacramento Mile at speeds up to 130 mph. pitching their bikes sideways and sliding through the turns. There is no such thing as pacing in this type of racing…it is all or nothing…with only one rider emerging as the winner.

“Winning the Sacramento Mile would be totally awesome,” says current point leader Jared Mees. “It is definitely one of the most prestigious events in the county. Not only does it have a long and successful history, but it is a first class event from start to finish. If you wanted to impress a sponsor or show a new fan what flat track is all about, this is one of the events that would totally sell them.

Born in Pennsylvania and now a resident of Clio, Michigan, Mees started racing when he was six years old. His dad got him into competition and he grew up racing just about every size motorcycle that existed. In 2001 he won the AMA Horizon Award. The following year he turned pro and won the Sportsman Performance National Championship. Among his other career highlights earned are the 2004 Rookie of the Year award and the 2009 and 2011 AMA Pro Harley-Davidson Insurance Expert Twins Championships. Last season piloting the Rogers Racing Harley-Davidson he ended the year in second overall.

“Last year was the first time I have ever raced the AMA Pro Sacramento Mile,” continues Mees. “We finished 4th, but we learned a lot which will definitely help this time out. Our goal is to finish the best we can. I’m not paying too much attention to the points yet. Having the point’s lead is definitely a plus, but it is early in the season. We are a better position than we were at this time last year, but there is no predicting the overall outcome.

There are a least twelve guys at every race that can take the win. Jake (Johnson – the
2011 and 2010 champion) is definitely on his game. Bryan Smith, who took last year’s win at Sacramento, has a really fast Kawasaki and he is also one heck of a miler. There are some tracks that favor certain riders more than others and a lot of them do well on the mile tracks.

One of the most exciting events this season, this is definitely a race you won’t wan to miss.

Gates open at 1:30 pm. Riders will run practice in the afternoon with open ceremonies taking place at 6:15 pm. Racing begins at 6:45 pm. A special autograph session will be held immediately following the last practice. Fans can meet their favorite riders, take pictures and get autographs.

Advance ticket prices are $85 for the Turf Club, $75 for the Legends Club House, $65 for Box Seats, $50 for Reserved Grandstands, $40 for Bleachers and $30 for Standing Room. All tickets are $10 more at the gate. All tickets also include same day admission to the Fair.
