(June 25, 2013) - K&N has a long history of supporting all types of racing and are especially proud of their involvement with the original roots of motorcycle racing, AMA Pro Flat Track. They have been involved with the Springfield Mile, the Peoria TT, and the Lima ½ Mile for many years. This year for a special bonus they have decided to award the racers at those prestigious events with the K&N Midwest Challenge. The top three expert racers at the four included races that collect the most points will be awarded a bonus from K&N Air Filters. First place will receive $750, second will get $500, and third will get $250.

The challenge kicks off this weekend on June 29th at the Ohio National Championship in Lima, OH. The race known for high flying gravel cushion and non-stop action takes place at the Allen County Fairgrounds. This year is the 30th annual running of this event and has never disappointed fans or riders with fun and excitement.

The next stop on the challenge will be the Peoria TT on August 11th. This national race was first held in 1947 and is the longest consecutive running dirt track race in the world. The track is known as “Thunder Valley” for a reason. It is positioned at the bottom of a valley and the thunderous roar of the bikes echoing through the valley is an experience you have to witness in person. The high flying action off the jump has launched some riders 130 feet down the track. There is never a dull moment at the Peoria TT in Peoria, IL.

During Labor Day weekend the K&N Midwest Challenge Bonus will be determined at the legendary Springfield Mile. There have been 91 national mile races held at the Illinois State Fairgrounds but it is gained its most recognition from being the fastest dirt track mile in the world. It all started in 1937 when the first AMA Class C National Championship was held on The Springfield Mile. In fact, until 1954 if a rider won The Mile he was rewarded the most coveted prize in Dirt Track competition, the National Champion’s number 1 plate. This year Springfield will be especially exciting with two mile national races. With one on Saturday and another on Sunday this double header will be providing double the points, double the action, and double the thrills for both the fans and racers. Will their tremendous machines and their physical endurance be able to handle the grueling pace of two miles? It will only be 9 short weeks until we find out.
