(June 24, 2013) - It is a race within a race for the Lloyd Brothers Motorsports Team heading into this Saturday’s AMA Pro Racing Lima Half-Mile National. With Henry Wiles and his Ducati being one of the favored riders and machines at the pea-gravel surface cushion horse racing track, the team hopes to be the first to break the 35 year Half-Mile National win streak shared by Honda and Harley-Davidson; Harley winning every Half-Mile National in the last 15 years totaling 101 wins.
Joe Kopp made history with the team in 2010 aboard the ENI USA R&M / Lloyd Brothers Motorsports Ducati by taking the win at the Prescott, Arizona Mile National over Sammy Halbert by .024 seconds. Kopp’s finish made him the first winner in 28 years on a motorcycle that was not either a Honda RS750 or a Harley XR750. Ironically, it was Kopp aboard his XR who stole victory from Wiles two years earlier at the Lima race when he edged Wiles (aboard the LBM Aprilia) at the line by .017 seconds.
“We are very confident in the equipment we have built this season for Henry to contest the championship. As we continue to develop the Ducati, we realize that it has the potential to become one of the best overall machines in which to challenge for the #1 plate. We will continue development while at the same time giving Henry exactly what he needs to effectively compete for the Championship #1 plate” stated Brent Armbruster, Crew Chief LBM.
